Fully Insured RINGMER 1 – 4 HORSHAM YMCA DIVISION ONE 28/03/09 Match Report by David Ruffles
After a tense and close first half that saw both sides score the second half could not have been more of a contrast with Horsham YMCA dominating proceedings as they kept alive their hopes of a swift return to the Ryman’s League.
Both goals in the first half came with strikers reacting quickly to pounce on a loose ball just outside their opponents’ penalty area. Paul Elliott cut in from the left flank to elude the Blues defence before placing the ball beyond Joe Adams to give the visitors the lead. Five minutes later it was Jayson Sowter who levelled the scores as he beat Tom Rand in the visitors’ goal. Soon afterwards a snap-shot from Ryan MacMillan, playing his last game for Ringmer before moving to Whitehawk, went just over the crossbar. Jayson Sowter then had three chances to put the Blues in target but each time his shot just missed the target.
Eight minutes into the second half YM took the lead as Elliott capitalised upon a defensive mix up to beat Adams to the ball which he despatched into the far corner of an unguarded net. From then on YM took control as they chased the emphatic win they needed to stay in touch with the three clubs above them in the table. A turn and shot from Tom Manton on the edge of the Blues penalty area went through the legs of Adams and into the net with some twenty minutes left to play. Then five minutes from time Adams spilled a free-kick from James Rhodes which came straight at him through the defensive wall and Elliott was on hand to score from close range to put the result beyond doubt.
