Fully Insured RINGMER 1ST XI 4 – 3 LINGFIELD 1ST XI DIVISION ONE 11/04/09 Match Report by David Ruffles
On Saturday Ringmer served up a thrilling encounter in which they twice came from behind to secure the three points needed to guarantee Division 1 survival.
In a first half with few clear chances Lingfield took an early lead when an error by Craig Brown allowed Steve Ahoua to slide the ball under the advancing Joe Adams. David Altendorf quickly equalised then after twenty five minutes a cross from Kieran Patel was met at the far post by Aaron MacMillan who hooked the ball into the net to give the Blues the lead.
The second half began in lively fashion with two goals for the visitors within ten minutes of the restart. First a weak header by Brown was seized upon Ahoua, who asked questions of the Ringmer defence all afternoon. His cross from the right was side-footed home by Daley Clark. Then a cross from Panni Ortis slipped through the hands of Adams leaving Ahoua a simple tap-in to give Lingfield the lead. Ringmer pressed forward in search of an equaliser with fullbacks Jon Marzetti and Will Broomfield launching attack after attack. Aaron MacMillan and Sam Sowter both had changes to score but it was not until eight minutes from time that the Blues levelled the scores thanks to a lob over the goalkeeper from Sam Sowter. In a tense last minutes both sides could have won the game before Aaron Hasan connected with a corner from Kieran Patel to send a looping header over the goalkeeper to settle the game in favour of Ringmer.
