With a complete change of the management and playing staff at Worthing Utd since their early season massacre at the hands of Ringmer this match was never destined to see a repeat performance from the Blues . The visitors came to the Caburn on the back of a run of five consecutive draws and desperate for three points to boost their hopes of avoiding relegation.

The honours were just about even in a goal-less first half. Ringmer had the better of the chances with the front three of Kieran Patel, Sam Sowter and Joe Dryer all going close to scoring. However the hero of the half was goalkeeper Joe Adams who twice in the space of two minutes made superb saves to deny Matt Russell. First Russell’s curling shot appeared destined for the top left hand corner of the blues’ goal before Adams launched himself to snatch the ball out of the air at full stretch. Then Russell’s attempted chip over Adams was foiled as the keeper reached high above his head to tip the ball aside for a corner.

The second half began with wasted chances at both ends before Kieran Patel’s decisive strike in the sixty fifth minute. Patel cut inside from the right flank before placing the ball between the goalkeeper Dean Fuller and his left hand goalpost to put Ringmer ahead. Patel almost increased the lead moments later as his shot from a cross by Jon Marzetti was blocked by Fuller. As time marched on the visitors piled on the pressure as they strived for a late equaliser with first Barney Boutwood and then Richard Greenfield almost scoring from headers. Meanwhile a cross-field pass from Will Broomfield marauding down the left found David Altendorf wide on the right and he was unlucky to see his shot fly across the goalmouth out of reach of everyone.
