Report by David Ruffles

A fine display by the Blues was rewarded with all three points to lift Ringmer off the bottom and out of the bottom three in the table.

After a rather scrappy opening Jo Jo Tubon played the ball out wide to Darren Lok and when his cross from the right wing entered the Mullets penalty area Tubon fire the ball home beyond the reach of Ben O’Connor in the home goal. A minute later play switched to the opposite end with a sliding tackle from Jon Marzetti denying Howard Neighbour a shooting opportunity. The home side looked particularly dangerous from set pieces. Gary Trott twice punched the ball away from corners before Matt Axell shot through a ruck of players and just wide of the target. Then on thirty minutes a free-kick from Mark Price was headed against the Mullets crossbar by Tubon only for Aaron Hasan to force the rebound home from close range. A minute before half-time Ringmer increased their lead when, following a run down the right wing Marzetti’s cross was met by the tireless Price who, despite the close attention of his marker and O’Connor, managed to place the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The Mullets came out for the second half determined to fight their way back into the game and Trott was soon in the action with two good saves from powerful strikes from just outside his penalty area. All this pressure finally told on the hour mark as Scott Tipper forced the ball into the net from close range following a corner. Try as they might in the last thirty minutes the Mullets failed to trouble Ringmer defence again much to the delight of the Ringmer supporters who gave their heroes a warm welcome at the final whistle. Post-match celebrations though were rather muted as the Mullets Rory Biggs was taken to hospital in an ambulance after sustaining a nasty injury some fifteen minutes before the final whistle. Ringmer wish him well for a speedy recovery.

*************************

As many know these 1st team match reports on this website and in the Sussex Express have been compiled by a certain David Ruffles. He has been penning away since the 2004/05 Season only missing those matches that happened when he was on a holiday. Most will also know David has resigned as a Director of RFC Ltd, he has also hung up his many hats he wore here at the club, one of those hats being match reporter for the 1st team.

Anybody who has written sports reports will know that it isn't easy (especially when we loose the odd one or two) and involves a lot more than telling the scores and to do this match after match, week in, week out, plus as of late his other home match day's duties takes a lot of dedication and work..

David has helped me here at the website since it's beginnings in 2002/03 not only with his reports but with endless other informative bits and pieces over the years, he also is very good at pulling me up on the odd typo Ha Ha!. I would like to thank him myself for all of this help and for making my job as website editor a lot easier here at the website office.

We are very very lucky at this club as not only do we get 1st team reports we also have this season a very good reserve reporter with Steve Frost as scribe, who writes an excellent report when he is available to do so. The youth team is also covered this season with reports coming from Asst manager/Coach Brian Henderson giving a great insight in to the youth game.

Whether you thought David must have watched a different match than you or you found his reports an enjoyable read his writings were always there and were always waiting in my in-tray.

Thanks David
