EAST GRINSTEAD TN 1ST X1 2 – 2 RINGMER1ST X1

DIVISION ONE

14/11/09

Report by the Crouchies

As the rains subsided the two teams took to the pitch, both needing points to climb out of the bottom half of the table. Ringmer's inconsistent form was up against an improving East Grinstead, they winning six out of the last seven games but the Blues were looking to amend the 5-1 drubbing they gave us at home a month ago.

The blustery conditions and sodden pitch was always going to hamper a good game of football but both sides did well considering. The home side were first to have a shot go wide of the Ringmer goal, on return Joe Dryer tried his luck at the other end who also shot wide. Then on thirteen minutes Grinstead's Aaron MacMillan received a through ball to run in, rounding brother Ryan in Ringmer's defence and smashed in a low shot across goal into the far corner of the net. The Blues responded straight away and within two minutes had scored to level. A corner from Jon Marzetti was cleared out of the box but only back to him, Marzetti then swept in a lovely cross from the right to meet Aaron Hasan running in to head the ball home.

Another corner from Grinstead caused a panic two minutes later after a blocked clearance ball bounced around the goal area causing Gary Trott the Ringmer keeper to quickly dive on the ball before a Wasp's boot got to it, then three minutes later a corner from Dryer was again cleared out of the Grinstead area but again back to Dryer who crossed back to find Mark Price in the centre but his end shot went over the bar. Neither side made a lot of head way in the last thirty of the half a few chances fell to either side which were either wide or easily saved by the keepers and the half ended all square at 1-1.

Second half and Ringmer went straight on the attack with Jayson Sowter collecting a long ball up field and was running on for goal when he was brought down just outside the home sides 18yd box but despite calls for a free kick nothing was given. On five minutes Jon Marzetti with another good run down the right beats his defender and crosses to Jo Jo Tubon who shot was saved. Then on eight minutes a cross from the right saw Grinstead's Drew Crush head in on the far post for their second Goal.

Ringmer again were having trouble penetrating the back line and most build up work came to an end at that point, it wasn't until the 66th minute that Ringmer managed to breech that wall, a squared cross from Tubon on the right to Dryer 22 yds out on the left of goal, who controlled the ball and shot towards the far post, the ball seemed to go through the keepers hands and Darren Lok came in to knock the ball in the net to bring the Blues level once more at 2 -2 .

Despite the tired legs with the heavy going platform both sides did play some good passing moves and seemed to step up a gear in the last twenty minutes to find a winning goal, again though not a lot of goal action but a lot of back and forth. A speculative Grinstead shot from 38 yds out in front of goal just went over the Ringmer bar and a Titus Paterson shot in the last few minutes that also flew over were the only real chances of note and the match finally fizzled out all even at 2-2 a fair result for two equal teams on a less than perfect day.
