RINGMER 2 – 3 HAILSHAM TOWN DIVISION ONE 15/09/09 Report by David Ruffles
This was typical local derby played at a frantic pace by two fully committed sides desperate for three points to left themselves up the table at the expense of their opponents.
It was the Stringers who took the lead after fourteen minutes with Tyler Goacher running onto a through ball and firing beyond the reach of Gary Trott. Within five minutes Ringmer drew level with a powerful header from Ryan MacMillan following a corner from Matt Percival. Ringmer had the better of the exchanges in the rest of the first half and went in at half-time with a one goal advantage courtesy of a goal in the last minute of the half. A low free-kick from Jon Marzetti was spilled by former Ringmer favourite, Mark Oldroyd, leaving Aaron Hasan the easy task of tapping the ball into the net.
However, Ringmer’s lead was short-lived. Two minutes into the second half, a low corner caused havoc in the Blues goalmouth enabling Ryan Alexander to force the ball home. Both sides had chances to take the lead and with twenty minutes left to play Luca Delgardo curled a shot beyond the reach of Trott to give the visitors the lead and ultimately all three points. However the match was still not without drama as Ringmer almost snatched an equaliser in the very last minute with Oldroyd blocking first a shot from Percival and then a follow-up shot from Kevin Barden. From the resulting corner Dan Craghill’s header was cleared off the goal-line to deny the Blues a share of the points.
