DIVISION ONE

10 OCTOBER 09

Report by David Ruffles

On a poor playing surface and against a very physical side whose principle tactic seemed to consist of grabbing their opponents’ shirt at every conceivable opportunity the Blues ran out comfortable winners of this bottom of the table clash.

Ringmer’s man of the match Darren Lok posed a constant threat with a string of quality crosses from the right flank during the first half. After a quarter of an hour Lok threaded the ball through to Jo Jo Tubon whose first shot hit the Oak’s goalkeeper Aaron Stenning on the arm but Tubon followed up to force the ball over the line. The Blues second goal came from new signing Tom Swancott who scored on his debut after joining from Wealden. Swancott did well to battle his way through the home defence before firing the ball beyond Stenning.

With Lok now switched to the left for the start of the second half the Blues continued to create goal-scoring opportunities. On the hour mark substitute Kieran Patel, who had only been on the pitch for barely a minute, laid the ball back from the by-line for Titus Paterson to pick his spot to score against his former club. Moments later a solo effort from Jon Marzetti flew inches wide of the Oaks goal. Then Patel ran through the home defence before putting the ball in the back of the net for Ringmer’s fourth goal of the game with twenty minutes left to play. Although the Oaks tried to get back into the game and put the Ringmer goal under pressure at times the Blues never looked likely to surrender their lead.

This result saw the Blues move four places up the table ahead of Tuesday game against fellow strugglers East Grinstead Town, managed by former Ringmer boss Steve Johnson.
