Match Team and Report

RINGMER 1st X1 2 – 0 MILE OAK 1st X1

S.C.F.L Division 1

06/03/2010

Reported by Ben Ashcroft

Ringmer battled to a vital win against fellow relegation candidates Mile Oak on Saturday. Two first half goals from Dave Altendorf and Kieran Patel saw the Blues move to 16th and more importantly are now a point clear of the relegation zone.

The boys came flying out of the blocks and dominated proceedings during a one-sided first half.

Just minutes in, fine work from Joe Dryer on the left wing saw his pull back reach the feet of Sam Sowter. He acted quickly to shift the ball out to the overlapping Kieran Patel and he drilled the ball across Mile Oak goalkeeper Aaron Stenning and into the back of the net - A perfect start for the Blues in a must win fixture.

Both Joe Dryer and Kieran Patel were causing problems for the away side down both flanks and after Dryer fed Ryan Macmillan on the edge of the area. He managed to cleverly evade his marker with a deft chip over his shoulder but dragged his shot narrowly wide.

A Glen Matten cross then nearly found the net after it was headed agonisingly wide of the away sides left post by defender Gary French.

The build up play in midfield by Dave Altendorf and Aaron Phillips was causing severe problems and it was soon to bring another goal.

A Joe Dryer corner was not dealt with efficiently by the Mile Oak backline and Dave Altendorf pounced to head home from under the crossbar to give Ringmer a much deserved two goal cushion.

Kieran Patel then had a shot cleared off the line after some nifty footwork before Sam Sowter hit the side netting with a low drive from an acute angle.

Sam Sowter then had another shot well saved as he turned well and drilled low. But Stenning made himself big and kept the score at 2-0 at half time.

The second half was much the same as the first but this time Mile Oak were in the ascendancy. Ringmer struggled to get going and were seemingly looking to soak up the pressure and take the victory.

After half time substitute Jo Jo Tubon had drilled a long range effort at the goalkeeper, the away side took control.

Clay Lamont had his effort saved well by Tom Rand and neat build up play from Steve Porter and Peter Martin was beginning to look dangerous.

A foul on the edge of the area saw Chris Paine drill his free kick well over. Before nippy winger Peter Martin put in three threatening crosses which were well dealt with by the Blues backline.

Jo Jo Tubon was looking lively on the break but to no avail as Mile Oak rallied in the final ten minutes.

Chris Paine again had a free kick on the edge of the area. He whipped it over the wall but luckily for the Blues it hit the crossbar and the ball was cleared.

In the final minutes, Tom Rand saved superbly low to his right after more neat work from Clay Lamont but the hosts held firm to claim an invaluable three points that moved them clear of the drop zone.

It certainly was a game of two halves with both sides having a share of chances and possession in each half respectively. The Blue battled well and took their chances to secure the victory. With the same work rate and energy shown on Saturday, a result against runaway side Whitehawk on Monday isn’t out of the question.

Have a good week all, Ben.
