PEACEHAVEN & TELS 4 – 2 RINGMER FC RUR CHARITY CUP R3 17/11/09 Report by the Crouchies
Once again Ringmer made the trip to Peacehaven to play in a 3rd round tie of the RUR Charity Cup. Unfortunately the league in it's wisdom moved the start time to 7:15 instead of 7:45 thus most of the Ringmer supporters arrived on or after the kick off, nor did the team know and rushed to warm up properly. Apparently an email had been sent but was not received, upon no receipt for this email there was no check to see why from the sender! We have to make a phone call if no email confirmation happens!!! I even checked the SCFL website at 6 pm and it said 7:45pm, where was the three day warning of time change!!!!! Then on top of that for the second match against Peacehaven, our kit had to be changed. Last time it was the socks that looked to similar! This time the shirts, it was deemed that the white top with light blue arms was to much like the home sides white with black stripes on the back so we had to wear a yellow jersey borrewed for the night. For future reference it should be a Blue top, white shorts and white socks when we play Peacehaven away, I quite like that colour scheme anyway.
The conditions once again dry but with a blustery wind blowing the length of the pitch. Ringmer had the wind behind them for the first half and were soon in their stride pressing forward in search of a goal. The first glimpse of anyone getting near the goal though didn't come until the 15th minute when a high lob over from the right fell safely into Blues keeper Gary Trotts arms. On return Mark Price on the left hit a long ball over to Darren Lok on the right who managed to get a good cross over but the final shot was saved by the home keeper Jake Buss?. Then 5 minutes later Jon Marzetti with a run from midfield skied his shot wide. Lok was then brought down just outside the 18 yard box, but Kieran Patel's free kick just went over the bar. Peacehaven answer back after a throw into the centre caused a bit of a melee on the edge of the box finally a home boot fire it in to have Trott save. Ringmer had slightly more of the game and it seemed more chances but were again finding it hard to hit the net.
On 26m Patel had a weak shot saved but 3m later good play from Kieran Mercer and Joe Dryer found Patel on the edge of the box who's shot eluded the keeper for Ringmer's first goal. Mark Price then took a free kick way out on the left which swung in on the wind towards goal but was safely held by Buss. Patel with another shot wide after picking up a long ball up the centre. Peacehaven mount an attack on 37m the final shot going over the bar. Another free kick for Ringmer this time Marzetti finds Jo Jo in the box who shoots just wide. Ringmer looked the better side as Peacehaven battled to gain ground against the wind. Then with a couple of minutes to go Lok won the ball on the edge of the Peacehaven box but his shot was blocked, this fell nicely for Price on the left of the box who jiggled his way passed two defenders to shoot in for the Blues second. Ringmer's band of supporters were overjoyed as Peacehaven have beaten us both times in the league this season and to be two up at half time seemed pretty good.
It was generally felt at half time that the Blues were going to have their work cut out playing against the wind and a hungry Peacehaven. In the first minute though it was Ringmer to knock first with Dryer heading just outside the post but that effort was practically the last time Ringmer would come close to getting anywhere near the home goal, but it wasn't for the want trying with moments of inspirational play by the Blues retrieving and working the ball up field with some creative football. This half though belonged to Peacehaven who gained four goals. The long ball creating a lot of work four the Blues defence, The ever hard working Marzetti doing a great job clearing at least three goal bound balls.
Peacehaven struck first on 51m a cross in from the left sailed into the Blues area and thumped in by Craig Bunch for goal no1, Bunch scored again 5m later after a defensive error when a back pass to Trott, who was rushing out missed the ball it and was picked up by Bunch to slip it in to the net for no 2. The Blues struggled to get anywhere as most attacks ended with the home defence hoofing the ball back down the Ringmer end on the wind. On 75m Peacehaven struck again for no 3 again a loose ball in the Blues area was picked up by Callum Saunders to score. The last came 7m later, a long ball caught Ringmer out, with Finney rushing back to defend Trott rushed out to meet the ball but Saunders got there first to knock it passed him to score Peacehaven's fourth. A one goal improvement never the less by the Blues from the last Peacehaven game last month which ended 4-1. :-)
We have the first home match this Saturday after six away matches on the trot, entertaining the much fancied Whitehawk, it will be the first home match also for the new club management team so please be gentle with them.
