Report by the Crouches

Ringmer's last minute goal gave them a well deserved win at Shoreham on Saturday. The home side though went one up first with a goal in the first half. Both sides tried the passing game but with a degree of difficulty at times on a heavy unpredictable surface. Ringmer gained from an own goal in the second half as a scrambled ball in front of their net went in to put Ringmer all square. A point looked the outcome for both sides as the last minute of the match started, the visitors though forged another attack on the home goal, this attack paid off and earned them another goal and the three points.

Ringmer started the match determined to change their fortune and were straight into attack mode, an early free kick from Joe Dryer saw David Altendorff on the receiving end to head just over the bar. Dryer's throw in 15 minutes later had Mark Price hook it over to Kieran Patel to head into the home keepers hands. The unpredictable surface was making Ringmer's passing game just that, unpredictable, Shoreham picking up on missed passing from Ringmer and making quick breaks towards the visitors goal. Long balls down field from Ringmer keeper Tom Rand or clearance balls were invariably won in the air by the strong home defenders this made any gain towards goal for Ringmer with the long ball frustratingly difficult.

Shoreham's first real chance came some 20 minutes in when a lofted shot went just wide of the Ringmer goal, a few minutes later another shot was stopped easily by Rand. On the half hour Dryer's cracking free kick from 20yds looked as if it was goal bound but an excellent save from the home keeper Ronan Callaghan pushed the ball to a defender who in turn cleared the ball out of the ground. A few minutes later a Shoreham attack was crossed in by Lee Denyer which ended up going out for a corner, from this corner Shoreham's opening goal came, with many bodies in the Ringmer area it was hard to tell what happened as the low kick came across the ground to the goal but James Rhodes was awarded the knock in for Shoreham and it went 1-0 to the home side which seemed a tad against the run of play. The half petered out with only a few slim chances either way, in at 1-0.

A moment of anxiety for the Ringmer supporters at the start of the second half as Shoreham start the better, Rand was forced to come out quicly for a clearance after the defence were caught on the hop, Rand straying out of his area had to head out to defend, with Glen Matten cleaning up to kick clear, a minutes later Shoreham again shot just wide of goal on another assault.

Ringmer drew breath and settled as Patel was subbed in exchange for Ryan Storrie, Ringmer then started to change the flow of play with more pressure coming close with shots from Dryer and Altendorff being saved. Then on 23 minutes a mistake in the Shoreham goal mouth had home defender Nick Fogden knock the ball over the line with an own goal to level the scoreline 1-1.

Ringmer pressed on and won another free kick just outside the home 18yd box, Dryer bent it beautifully around the wall only to have Callaghan save. Shoreham then pile on ten minutes of pressure in an attempt to again gain the lead. They came very close to scoring and with out the valiant saving abilities of Rand in the Ringmer goal they may well have done so on a couple of occasions. Ringmer rode this short onslaught and came out unscathed and went back on the attack. With Dryer working hard on the left finding ways to get round the Shoreham defence, it was Storrie on the right who found his way, crossing in to Dryer, who's shot skimmed just past the post.

Shoreham were then reduced to 10 men after the referee saw an altercation with retaliation?, Altendorff first receiving a yellow and Shoreham's Lee Eastman given a red to everyone's surprise. Further close attempts by Ringmer followed with shots from Ryan MacMillan, Jo Tubon, Dryer and Storrie but all for no reward.

Shoreham seemed to had settled for a point as had most of the supporters watching as it was in the last minute of the game. The Ringmer lads had different ideas though and launched another attack on the home goal, a run through the middle with a pass out to Dryer saw his cross end up with the ball bouncing around the Shoreham goal area with defenders desperately trying to get hold of it to clear, in the end it fell to Ringmer's Aaron Philips who had come on for Steve May a few minutes earlier, to knock it in off of the far post for Ringmer 2nd goal, 1-2.

Added time was played which seemed an eternity to the travelling supporters as Shoreham went into overdrive peppering the Ringmer defence time and time again with frenzied attacks in an effort to equalize. However, the efforts of Rand, Matten, Matt Barton Jon Marzetti and Hasan defended well till the final whistle. Well done to all the Ringmer players for their well earned win.
