RINGMER 2ND X1 3 – 1 SEAFORD TOWN 2ND X1 RESERVE SECTION EAST DIVISION 28/08/09 Report by The Crouchies
Ringmer's 2ndX1 started fresh and controlled most off the game from start to finish, scoring three goals and giving the visitors Seaford Town very little chance of replying.
Matt Little and Kevin Barden were in action down the right from the off, Barden firing at the keeper after 5 mins then Little crosses to Barden for another shot that went wide. Five minutes later Barden again sees his a shot skim over the crossbar. This early intense pressure paid off after Matt Little seemed to cross the ball from the right side which the keeper caught but the ball slipped through his hands and dropped into his goal, no doubt Matt would have said it was defiantly a shot though. 1-0.
The action continued with a shot from Ryan Moore just going wide, Doug Saunders shooting just over the bar. A corner on 20 mins saw the ball come out to Louis Munnery who's cross back to goal found Little who knocked just over the bar on to the roof of the net. On 26 Mins yet another good run down the right by Barton ended with a shot that had the keeper saving again, a few minutes later Ryan Moore got on the end of a Little cross to head in but again just missing. Then finally on the half hour a game of ping pong in the Seaford goal mouth had Little tap it it for Ringmer's second, 2-0. More shots came from Ryan Betsworth, Little Saunders, Barden and Munnery but the half ended with the Blues 2-0 up. Seaford couldn't find an answer to Ringmer's play and found great difficulty in breaking the Blues defence which gave keeper Skates, little to do all half. The visitors best chance came in the last minute of the half when they for once broke through up the right side and got a cross in but the attack failed to connect and the chance was lost.
Second half and Alex Fleming takes the place of new signing Kevin Mercer, and straight from the off Fleming went on the assault taking the ball up field, his shot got blocked which came back to Betsworth who's shot again goes just wide of the post. Seaford go on the attack and they get a shot in forcing Skate to make a diving save.
On 60mins Betsworth has a shot pushed aside by the keeper for a corner after a good run through the defence. Five minutes later Munnery tries his hand with a free kick 25 yds out the Seaford keeper again saves. Saunders on 25 mins beats two defenders and crosses to find Burton who's shot again stopped by the keeper, again denying the Blues a third goal.
Rob Frost comes on for Ryan Moore and is quickly in to the action a great sequence of passes working the top right, Fleming to Betsworth, back to Fleming up tp Robbie Frost back to Fleming with the final shot just going wide. Betsworth has another shot saved a minute later. Another good run up the right by Frost has him sending over a great cross to find Barden in front of goal but again he heads just over. Seaford are still in the match making the odd forage down the pitch but have no real impact on the game as my notes show this with the lack of worthy scribbles.
Ironically after all this Seaford manage to get a goal, in the 44th minute there was a melee in the Ringmer goal mouth originating I think from a corner or free kick, a Ringmer player was adjudged to have hand balled at some point and a penalty was given. It was taken well and Seaford had pulled one back. With now only one goal difference I am sure thoughts were with the visitors of at least levelling the score. Ringmer however had other thought and in the last minute of the game Betsworth received a through ball up the middle from midfield and broke free to run in with only the keeper to beat, this he did and coolly slipped it into the corner of the net for a well deserved goal at last. Final score 3-1 to Ringmer.
